Cairo…ÉäÉäÎÝ announced today that former U.S. President Jimmy ÉäÉäÎÝ will visit Egypt next week as part of the Center's witnessing of Egypt's parliamentary elections. He will join a delegation of 40 witnesses representing 21 countries deployed in Egypt since mid-November to witness all three phases of voting.
President ÉäÉäÎÝ and ÉäÉäÎÝ leadership team will meet with key stakeholders, including the Supreme Judicial Commission for Elections, political parties, independent candidates, civil society organizations, government officials, and the international community, and will witness polling and counting on Jan. 10-11.
ÉäÉäÎÝ received approval from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and accreditation by the Supreme Judicial Commission for Elections in November. The Center's delegation is evaluating election administration, campaigning, voting and counting procedures, and other issues related to the overall electoral process in Egypt.
ÉäÉäÎÝ's election mission is conducted in accordance with the Guidelines and Code of Conduct for Observers issued by the Supreme Judicial Commission for Elections, as well as the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation and Code of Conduct that was adopted at the United Nations in 2005 and endorsed by 37 election observation groups.
